data visualization of the week #03: visual DNA Posted on September 24th
Visual DNA es una instalación que cuenta con veinte tubos de ensayo, un detector de código de barras, una mesa y un proyector. En cada tubo hay partes de seres vivos que contienen código genético, como por ejemplo pelo humano, pan con mohos o una pata de una tarántula.
En la parte inferior de cada tubo de ensayo hay un código de barras que al pasarlo frente al detector, se proyecta una imagen de la gráfica del código genético realizado por Visual DNA.
El código genético de diferentes organismos es traducido en diferentes patrones gráficos. No cambia el código, sólo lo interpreta tomando como referente los 1050 posiciones del primer cromosoma basado en los resultados de A,C,G,T y una fuente de 28 figuras. Los colores son calculados de la misma forma teniendo 16.7 millones de colores posibles. Debido a la cantidad de códigos es poco probable que los patrones se repitan.
Este proyecto fue realizado por Daniel A. Becker y ha ganado varios premios, como por ejemplo el
Red dot Design Award 2006, Art Directors Club für Deutschland Junior ADC Award in der Kategorie Semesterarbeit 2006, Communication Design Award 2007 del Internacional Forum Design .
